| I don't really know where to go with this, so I'll just post it here..... But, I have a problem making R&B beats for some reason. I usually make beats for hardcore rap, gangster rap, sometimes some club stuff, even some reggae, but I can never make a solid R&B beat. I've made 1 or 2 before, but they never come out like how I want them to, it could be that I use soundfonts 99% of the time (I find that VSTi's are a BIG hassle) and I guess I can't find the right type of instrument from them. I'm not really looking for a tutorial video (seen at least 200 videos explaining how to make them, still to no avail), I'm just looking for tips and if you have any good instrument sounds to recommend to me, that'd be great...... | | myspace.com/lethaltx soundclick.com/lethaltx | |

| When I make an RnB track, I usually start with a chord progression. Start by recording some chords, and then making leads, and drums to fill it out.
I just uploaded an RnB track to my myspace. ;)

| | Because Rhythm and Blues is a progression of Jazz then get the bass, trumpet, piano and violin instruments together, possibly a cello. | | | |

| same problem almost... humming is very important... gonna give you the melody... and begin easy, with like a few piano keys that will give the global melody...then make it more complicated by adding stuff step by step...
That's how I do it...
And also, some instruments give a melody quite easier, like using 808 long kick drums is kinda useful sometimes to find a melody... | | | |

| mmm..Lol 1.Try a low tempo 2.Pay a lot of attention in mixing drums...Use powerful or punch kicks...(Depending on how you want to sound the beat...Be careful on percussion...It gives a lot of flavour to the beat...It makes it sound more RnB lol.... 3.Play melodies with hand to give a natural feeling or randomize the velocities.... 4.Chose instruments from some good vst like sampletank and hypersonic...For example play piano melodies in lower octaves with longer notes and in higher octaves with short notes.... 5.I think major scales can help you more ... 6.Choose a synth that you like a lot ..and sound good to your ear for RnB..It Should not be too powerful but it should give the beat a bangin' feel...(Ya know , you dance with a girl and you want a dance able beat...Piano should be over the synth.. 7.Best advice...Listen to a lot of RnB and hear the details
