Hey guys,

I posted this in the welcome forum as well, so I hope that doesn't offend anyone.

I wanted to announce my new site Make Something Cool.

The idea behind the site is that you can upload your songs to share for criticism as well as your own loops and samples that you'd like to share under the Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.

At present, I've uploaded 148 samples and loops that I've made myself while working on my first ever album, which I'm actually still working on. Most of my music is progressive rock/industrial based, but I think a lot of the beats would be usable in many other scenarios.

There are no ads and there is no pressure to sign up to gain access to these samples. I just wanted to contribute to a community of freely exchangable sounds that could be used to help beginners and experts alike.

The site is at : http://www.makesomethingcool.com/

Thanks and hello! ;)

pretty cool site, kinda like soundsnap, only thing your loops are missing, is the key they are played in and the BPM they are in as well,,,,, but nice work

Thanks guys. I'm working on the BPM thing. I don't think it's COMPLETELY a lost cause as far as retroactively stamping the samples with BPMs. I've been aware of this problem but I made most of these sample dumps from songs I've worked on that are in various BPMs and some of them were recorded independent of the native BPM that the rest of the song uses.

There are open source applications that run in a command line on the server that will detect BPM, so at some point I intend to address this issue, but that will require modifying the Drupal code a bit.

I also intend to revamp the flash player fairly soon so that it actually loops the samples for more accurate previews. That will probably happen before anything else since a lot of software like Ableton and Acid will pick up the BPM automatically.

Again, thanks for the positive feedback.
